Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad (volunteer project)

TEACHING ENGLISH:
Requirements & description of work: Teach one two hour class that meets three evenings a week during a three month regular session (starting January, mid-April, mid-August) or one month mini-session (July and November). Potential teachers need to be fluent in English. Training, orientation, and materials in the teaching of English as a second language and popular education methodology provided. Half price Spanish classes are available to English teachers when there is a full paying student in the class.
Application process: Send a letter of interest and resume in English, along with a letter of reference. There is no fee.


ELECTIONS VOLUNTEER:
Requirements & description of work: Work with a team to create a program for a delegation of approximately 100 observers for the 2003 or 2004 Salvadoran elections. Includes visiting selected municipalities where voting will take place and meeting with members of local government and political parties. Volunteers must have an advanced level of Spanish and must commit from early January through late March of the election year in which they volunteer.
Application process: Send letter of interest in Spanish and resume in English, along with a letter of reference. There is no fee.


EMERGENCY RESPONSE NETWORK:
Requirements & description of work: Volunteers need to have strong written English and Spanish and at least an intermediate level of spoken Spanish. They must also have experience with human rights and/or social justice organizations and knowledge of the history of El Salvador. There is a minimum commitment of three months. Under the direction of the Emergency Response Network coordinator, volunteers investigate and write reports on cases of human rights abuses (including labor rights, etc.) that have been brought to the attention of the CIS.
Application Process: Send letter of interest in Spanish and resume in English, along with a letter of reference. No fee is charged.


HEALTH WORKER:
Requirements & description of work: Volunteers who will be working in non-governmental health clinics in poor communities, assisting local medics, must be fluent in Spanish and be a health worker by profession (or medical student). Must commit to a minimum of three months.
Application process: Send both letter of interest and resume in Spanish. The letter of reference can be in English. We charge a US $150 setup and placement fee for volunteer health workers.


ART/MUSIC TEACHER:
Requirements & description of work: Volunteers will work in communities outside of the city teaching art and/or music to groups of 8-10 children and young adults. Must be able to work with limited resources, have an advanced knowledge of Spanish, and commit to a minimum of three months.
Application Process: Send both letter of interest and resume in Spanish. The letter of reference can be in English. We charge a US $150 setup and placement fee for volunteer art/music teachers.

Institute for International Cooperation and Development (IICD)

IICD is a non profit organization. Each year IICD prepares teams of volunteers for work in developing nations. In conjunction with Humana People to People, IICD volunteers actively implement programs in health education, construction, agriculture and education.

Programs for 2000:
