Escuela de Español Melida Anaya Montes (Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad) (San Salvador)
In July 1992 the Mélida Anaya Montes Spanish School was launched by CISPES (Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador) as a pilot project. What started as 4 one-month-long sessions in '92/'93, soon became a permanent, year round project in August of 1993 when the CIS (Center for International Solidarity) was founded. The mission of the School has remained the same: to educate foreigners not only in the Spanish language but also in the history, politics, culture, and economics of El Salvador, and to provide a growing base of international solidarity with the people of El Salvador. The School has continued to grow throughout its almost 10 years of experience, and now includes a dynamic teachers' collective of eight, a family network including eight families, and a separate afternoon political cultural program where students are able to meet with organizations and members of the social movement, and participate in cultural activities.
